Property Description
Pierrepont is a town and hamlet in St. Lawrence County. People from all walks of life come to this area to study or teach at one of 5 renowned colleges in the Clarkson and St Lawrence Universities, SUNY at Potsdam, Canton and ESF Ranger School, and to enjoy the clean air, water, and wilderness, the foothills of the Adirondacks are well known for. This property is entirely forested with a rich mix of hard and soft mast species including: red oak, sugar and red maple, yellow, gray and paper birch, green and black ash, cherry, basswood, beech, elm, hop hornbeam, aspen butternut and hemlock. A recent timber harvest has stimulated new seedlings to emerge from the forest floor, creating additional browse for local critters. Hunting on the property should be good to excellent as I traversed tracks of whitetail, turkey, and snowshoe hare and flushed grouse during my visit. The Raquette River, which is the longest river in the county and third longest in the state, flows through the northeast part of the town. It is famous for canoeing, kayaking and angling adventures. If you get tired of your own property, explore the Glenmeal, Taylor Creek and Downerville State Forests, all within a fifteen minute drive of the property. There is ample room to build a house or cabin roadside, or back in the woods a bit. Electric and phone services are available. Most people in the area have drilled wells. Come see for yourself… and be prepared! You might just end up staying!
